I think Montessori works great for some adult teachers/parents. If we were concerned with what works best for the kids, we'd all be unschooling. ;)
I suppose a child might really enjoy being Montessoried (not that I really know what that would entail). In fact, on the blog I linked, the family mix unschooling with Montessori - you could ask them how that works :-)
The money quote is the bit about SATS and National Curriculum, though. At least Montessori has been around for 50 years so it's a bit tried and tested. SATs and National Curriculum are just, well, faddy.
I really don't understand sticking to an educational fad, be it the national curriculum or Montessori or whatever, because they are all restrictive. They mystify the child as a special kind of human being who needs to be have their learning planned by adults.
surely some children love Montessori, some kids love public school. But is it best for them? We can never know what is best for someone else, only they can find those answers inside their own hearts. As with everything else, Montessori has its good points. My objection is when choices are made by authority figures rather than each individual person. Autonomy is a wonderful thing.
Sure. Also, when helping your children to learn, take resources from everywhere you can.
